Health and Safety Commitment

RVA is committed to the health and safety of its employees and is knowledgeable with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. We have an established written policy and safety program for the protection of our employees from injury or occupational disease, and all staff (including workers, supervisors, and management) are dedicated to the continuing objective of reducing risk of injury. We strive to ensure that our employees receive adequate safety awareness training, and work in compliance with the law and the safe work practices that are common to our industry.

Our health and safety policy is supported by our Health and Safety Management System, which captures the requirements and practices of ISO 45001 certification, as well as our Health and Safety Committees. This includes regular safety inspections of the workplace, training in key safety areas (such as confined space entry and use of fall arrest systems), supply of protective equipment to employees, and other identified program elements. We have also developed safe work practices and procedures for employees to observe when undertaking various activities. In addition, the possible hazards associated with each assignment are reviewed and additional procedures are developed as required.

RVA is a member in good standing with the Ontario Workplace Safety & Insurance Board, Workers Compensation Board of Nova Scotia, WorkplaceNL, and WorkSafeNB.

Field staff

Our field staff have current and up-to-date safety training that is appropriate to their positions and the needs of their specific projects.

This training includes General Safety Awareness, Confined Space Entry Awareness, Working at Heights, Trenching and Shoring Safety, Traffic Protection, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).

Staff participate in annual Site Safety Training, leading to the issuance of an RVA Site Safety Training Certificate.

ISO 45001

ISO 45001 is an international standard that promotes robust organizational occupational health and safety systems with the goal of reducing occupational injuries and disease and the promotion and protection of mental health and physical wellbeing in the workplace. All RVA offices are ISO 45001 certified.
