RVA is committed to the health and safety of its employees and is knowledgeable with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. We have an established written policy and safety program for the protection of our employees from injury or occupational disease, and all staff (including workers, supervisors, and management) are dedicated to the continuing objective of reducing risk of injury. We strive to ensure that our employees receive adequate safety awareness training, and work in compliance with the law and the safe work practices that are common to our industry.
Our health and safety policy is supported by our Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), which aligns with our ISO 45001 certification. Our OHSMS is fully supported by management, reinforced through active employee participation, and promotes a strong safety culture across the organization. This includes regular workplace inspections, targeted training in key safety areas (such as confined space entry and fall protection), provision of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and implementation of safe work procedures for all tasks. Potential hazards are assessed for each assignment, with additional measures applied as needed to prevent incidents and ensure a safe working environment.
RVA is a member in good standing with the Ontario Workplace Safety & Insurance Board, Workers Compensation Board of Nova Scotia, WorkplaceNL, WorkSafeNB, and WorkSafeBC.
Field staff
Our field staff receive up-to-date safety training tailored to their roles and specific project requirements. This includes, but it not limited to, General Safety Awareness, Confined Space Entry Awareness, Working at Heights, Trenching and Shoring Safety, Traffic Protection, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
Staff also participate in annual Site Safety Training, upon successful completion of which they are issued an RVA Site Safety Training Certificate.
ISO 45001
ISO 45001 is an international standard that promotes robust organizational occupational health and safety systems with the goal of reducing occupational injuries and disease and the promotion and protection of mental health and physical wellbeing in the workplace. All RVA offices are ISO 45001 certified.

Supporting Ontario’s Safe Employers (SOSE) program
SOSE is a voluntary Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development program run by the Chief Prevention Officer. This program promotes health and safety in the workplace and helps reduce injuries and illness. By implementing an OHSMS, aligned with ISO 45001, RVA is recognized as a ‘Safe Employer’ under the SOSE program. This recognition reiterates our ongoing commitment to maintaining high standards of workplace health and safety.
Certificate of Recognition (COR®) program
COR® is a voluntary program, nationally recognized as an occupational health and safety accreditation. The program verifies an organization’s implementation of an effective safety management system that meets national standards. In 2026, RVA’s Halifax office received our Letter of Good Standing from Construction Safety Nova Scotia based on our active participation in the COR® program.
