R.V. Anderson Associates Limited (RVA) was retained by the County of Prince Edward to perform a Class EA, design and construct the residue management upgrades for the Picton Water Treatment Plant. The residue management upgrade included retrofitting the existing clearwell into a backwash equalization tank for the decanting and sludge removal systems. Dechlorination treatment is provided for the supernatant prior to discharge into Picton Bay.
The project scope was also expanded to include retrofitting the existing reservoir into a new clearwell for improved disinfection and clearwell capacity, as well as crucial equipment upgrades/replacement and resolution of several important operational and health and safety concerns. Complications due to spatial and time constraints, high water table, unknown structural integrity of existing structures were taken into consideration during the design of the upgrades.
The current plant capacity of 10,400 m3/day is projected to be sufficient for the needs of the town for the next two decades.
