R.V. Anderson Associates Limited (RVA) was retained by The Regional Municipality of Durham to provide engineering services for the design of a sanitary detention tank (SDT) and an express sewer to collect and temporarily store wet weather flows. This work was part of flooding mitigation measures in the Lawrie Road neighbourhood, in the Town of Ajax.
The new SDT is designed to provide 500 m3 of combined sanitary storage capacity during wet weather events. The facility is equipped with submersible pumps with automated pump controls to transfer the stored contents to the adjacent pump station, after the storm event. An automated tipping bucket flushing system is integrated in the facility to minimize odours emission and maintenance in general. A single room above ground facility provides access to the tipping bucket assembly and controls.
The design was completed in Revit which provided the capability to supply 3D renderings of the facility which were used in acquiring site plan approval and presentation at a Public Information Center.
