R.V. Anderson Associates Limited was commissioned by the City of Brantford to provide preliminary engineering, including Class EA, final design and services during construction for several areas of upgrade at the existing Holmedale WTP.
A new Residue Management Facility to handle the sludge stream from the existing Actiflo pre-treatment process and the backwash wastewater was the largest component of the works. The residue management process consists of backwash equalization, thickening with lamella plate gravity thickeners, sludge storage, dewatering with belt filter presses and conveying and loading of the sludge cake into disposal bins.
Upgrades to the 18,300 m³ in-ground reservoir which included a new concrete roof, dividing wall, chambers and associated piping. The work also included design and selection of a baffling system (approximately 1500 m² coverage), to eliminate the short-circuiting in the large reservoir. Upgrades to the yard piping, which included large and small size piping, were designed to provide uni-directional flow through the various components of the plant, built through the years, as well as to connect the existing and the proposed facilities.
