R.V. Anderson Associates Limited was retained to prepare a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for operational upgrades and increased capacity of the Georgetown Water Purification Plant (WPP), as identified in the Georgetown Water Master Plan. The outcome of the Class EA called for an expansion of the Georgetown WPP’s firm capacity from 100 L/s to 150 L/s, and included an additional filter to remove iron and manganese, and other operational upgrades.
The detailed design included a new 800 kW standby generator in a new building; a building expansion to accommodate the additional filter; a new high lift pumping station; and new administration area. The building expansion was built on the roof of the existing reservoir. Other works included modifications to the existing reservoir; a new workshop with truck access; and an expanded capacity of the existing gas chlorination system.
