R.V. Anderson Associates Limited was retained by GO Transit to undertake the preliminary and detailed design, contract preparation, contract administration, and full-time site review services for barrier-free accessibility improvements at the existing commuter train station on GO Transit’s Lakeshore West Line.
The project included a new pedestrian tunnel, new platforms with stair enclosures, and three electric elevators to provide access.
The existing platforms were also extended and rehabilitated to accommodate GO Transit’s 12-car commuter trains. The platforms were also constructed with a hydronic environmelt system to provide radiant heating, which prevents snow accumulation in winter. In order to maintain existing freight and commuter rail service on CN Rail’s tracks, the existing tracks had to be supported with temporary shoring to carry rail traffic while the pre-cast tunnel was installed in two weekends.
