R.V. Anderson Associates Limited wins the CEO’s 2013 Ontario Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence for the West Don Lands Stormwater Conveyance System. The Consulting Engineers of Ontario Awards, now in its 11th year, recognizes some of the best engineering projects in Ontario and around the world.
This project is the first large-scale treatment system meeting City of Toronto’s stringent Wet Weather Flow Management Guidelines. The system treats, stores and conveys stormwater from the new developments in the West Don Lands to the Keating Channel, which discharges into Lake Ontario.
Unique features include the largest oil-grit separator in Canada and a complex series of shafts and tunnels, which cross under the Gardiner Expressway, Lakeshore Boulevard, and railway tracks. The treatment system includes one of the first uses of ballasted flocculation and ultraviolet disinfection for stormwater treatment and is part of the largest urban renewal project in Canada and one of the largest waterfront projects in the world.
This project has also won the 2011 Canadian Architect Award of Excellence and the 2012 Ontario Concrete Award.
