R.V. Anderson Associates Limited wins two awards from Ontario Public Works Association for project excellence:
The project used innovative technology to dewater ash, resulting in 70% less footprint than the old ash handling system, freeing up valuable space for a future expansion. The new system also provides savings in clean-up costs and improved aesthetics. This is the firm’s first Technical Innovation Award.
The project required complex construction and operational sequencing to undertake capacity upgrades in a station located 30 m deep in a rock shaft. Challenges related to maintaining operations and constructing within a very confined space required innovative construction techniques, including non-traditional equipment delivery and installation approaches, and enhanced worker safety requirements. The overall project concept of rehabilitating and expanding the existing station provided cost savings of $25 million in comparison to the original concept of replacing the facility.
RVA has been the recipient of eight OPWA Project of the Year Awards since 2006.
