R.V. Anderson Associates Limited’s (RVA) contribution to the Schollen & Company Inc. project helped to win the 2013 Canadian Society of Landscape Architect’s Regional Citation Award.
RVA’s component included innovative, sustainable features, such as stormwater management design that incorporated permeable pavers and bioswales, and parking lot lighting through LED lights. These lights allow the site to use less energy and provide for better directionally controlled lighting to prevent light pollution.
The reconstruction of the parking lot was intended as a pilot project by the City of Toronto and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) in order to provide a viable example of how to build a parking lot in a more sustainable manner.
RVA provided the civil engineering for the site works component of this project.
